Default New into blogging

Hey, I'm Susana from Colombia, I'm new at blogging. I've beeing doing it for a month now and I really like it. Right now I'm trying to put things together on my blog and hopefully start getting some traffic soon. It started as a blog related to technology and design and right now it has turned into an Icon Design blog, which is nice because I haven't seen another blog like it but it's hard to come up with content to keep it updated. iconshock blog » All about Icons, Logos and Interface Design, I'm anxious to get your feedback and comments I hope to learn a lot from you!

Icons and favicons should be a terrific niche for you - good choice, to go more targetted than another broad-spectrum technology/design blog. The only thing is that it's really very slow to load. yes, I know it's graphics-heavy, but I visited an icon blog just 2 or 3 days ago that was much quicker and yet showed off just as much content, so I'm sure it can be done! Suggestion: add a recent posts list in your sidebar and/or categories, to give visitors another way to go deep - and then you can cut back the number of posts on the main page so it will load more quickly. And, of course, check that all your images are well optimized! Otherwise, I'd say you should do very well with this one!

Thanks for your feedback, I'm working on the loading time.. My hosting tends to be "saturated" at this hour of the day, but they're seeing what they can do about it. Having less posts in the main page is a good idea too, I'll keep it in mind!

I think it never hurts to design as if every reader is on a slow connection and every web host is struggling with an over-burdened server. That way, when everything falls into place the way it should, your site is so blindingly fast that the bounce rate drops way down - people hardly notice they're clicking on to third and fourth and fifth pages!

Welcome to the community; make sure you blog about something that interests you so regardless if it makes money today, tomorrow or EVER it's something you enjoy doing so it's time well spent. Also when you do something you love it really shows in the output.
