Smile Too Many Posts

Hello Everyone,

I just started blogging and has not even been a month yet. I enjoy blogging but is there a such thing as too many blog posts. I feel like I need to pace myself and not overwhelm my readers.

Thoughts?

Not really much on too many blog posts, but it's when you start wondering off from the topics you like to share about that you might want to consider how much of the posts you have posted have some "reading value" out of them. Try this:

Write daily if you write a story or novel, or when you follow a news article.

Write at least twice a week if you write your personal thoughts or share your photographs (may also apply if you want to describe your latest achievements in academia or really want to feature something unique).

Something to think about.

That's a good way to start. That way, you can think deeper on what you really want to write before posting another one. But, if you really want to write a compelling story, do otherwise.

I fall into the category that thinks it is possible to post too much too quickly. I do think that every single day blogging wears out your RSS subscribers. And I think that content quality goes down (unless you're a professional team like Huffington Post!) if you blog too much, too fast.

I know many will disagree with me, but I definitely think that about two to four times a week updating with new content is about right.

I'm with you on that one, Melody. I was considering once a week on my blog, but given the multimedia nature of it (plus I deliver a blog in my own language), I aggregate the posting frequency to thrice a week, which I have clearly described in my blog's front page. Should my blog entries be more successful, I'll up the frequency by up to twice more a week, meaning:

English entries: Tuesday and Thursday
Filipino entries: Wednesday and Friday
Photo essay: Sunday

That's pretty much my plan in mind for now so that I can keep my contents going.

When I first started blogging, I was so excited that I got really prolific and was posting like 3 times a day when I could. Then, due to both technical difficulties and a busy life, I left my blog alone for 3 months. If I had scheduled my posts to be once a day instead, my content would have probably lasted for those busy months and I wouldn't have had the drop in readership that I did. While you can't have too much content, I think you can have too much content at once.

Depending on what niche your blog falls under, i'd recommend posting at least 4 times a week on 2 different days, and continuing the amount on the same days every week so visitors know you'll always have fresh material. I'm currently trying to post at least once every day. But then with the niche my blog falls under, it's kind of the best thing for it.

It's all about personal preferrence and whether you feel you can keep up the amount your posting. Too much and you risk overwhelming visitors and pushing topics down. Too little and risk turning visitors away through lack of reading material.

If you have just start blogging then you probably don't have that many readers to overwhelm. Ideally when you start blogging you want to push out as much content as possible to attract potential readers.

I don't think that there is something as too much content on a blog. It much worst to go to a blog and find out that there is nothing new!

Agreed, you just started so I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's better to have a bunch of content sitting there so that when people discover you, they have stuff to read back through. As you blog longer and longer, you'll probably find that you don't want to post quite as much anyway. For now, I don't see any problem with it, though, and you might as well get it all out there while you're motivated.

Also, you can always schedule your posts to post later on so when you want to take a day off or aren't as motivated, you'll already have stuff sitting there, ready to go. You could consider combining some of your posts if they're really short, too.
