Run out and get all in one seo plugin for Wordpress and get that installed, give me a shout when you are done with that and I'll help you fill in the blanks.

Also in Wordpress under options, permalinks there is a selection that says date and name based, pick that and your posts ie pages will turn into the title names and not just numbers like they are now. Now you just have to think about the titles of your posts as they relate to your keywords and you'll be doing fine. If you need some help just let me know.

OK Next patient...

Cool, I love it when a plan comes together. I'm sure you know your keywords better than I do.

Why don't you check out how often each one is searched for by using freekeywords.wordtracker.com Then use those keywords to help fill in the plugins meta tags.
Keep your meta description tag limited to 250 characters and your keywords tag limited to about 1,000 characters or less.
Lots of people say to put in less keywords but I have found many sites that are on top of their field have a mess of keywords added. It does not work for Google but many other search engines use them.

I would also add some to your title tag like below:
An Alcoholic's Story A Recovering Alcoholic

I would install statcounter or an equivalent to see just how effective these changes are next.

Good luck and let me know how it goes.

I was hoping for more ideas for improvement

I started the blog in July 2007, but I am falling badly behind some of my friends who started about the same time.

I am still trying to catch up with them.

Thought I did a few, but personally I would like it to be short and sweet.

My goal is to target anybody who is interested in reading about world issues from a unique perspective. I guess you could say that it's a political blog, so the readers aren't really part of any specific group. My views tend to lean towards the left, in case that matters, but I wouldn't say that I'm entirely a "Democrat" or "Republican". Overall, the target is open-minded average people who are interested in reading some evidence-based conclusions about the world.

Does that help or is it too vague?

I'm sorry, the best thing I can say is to do some keyword research and make sure you include the best keyword combinations in your blog titles and any anchor text from backlinks pointing back to your blog. Have you looked at where your competitors backlinks are coming from? Apparently those places are working for them so I would try to follow suite. make sure any links are coming from a page with some pagerank and it contains relative topics. Try a free press release, you write nice articles just make a new one in the correct press release format introducing your new blog and blast it out to a few of the free PR sites. Here's a link explaining how to do just that. The Power Of Free Press Releases

Your keywords tags are invisible to someone just viewing your blog.

Another thing is to promote to opposite groups, like for example on my wife's Animals Need Help Blog we did a post about how fur is not cool. I made sure we included words about famous designers etc. Then I made sure I hit up all the fashion sites on entrecard with new ad requests. You could do the same thing on like for example the Jim Beam Blog or something like that. You could bring in people that are actually looking for the opposite thing liquor and maybe make a few of them stop and think. Well just an idea anyways.

Sometimes too vaugue is almost better, that means it is a very small niche and if you play your cards right you could be on top of those keywords at least per post. Per your whole blog it is going to be hard to be #1 since all of the competition and you changing your keywords per post.

Here's how I learned it

For example you have a jewelry website and your picking keywords for it.

keyword: Silver Jewelry thousands of pages on Google for this word, you could never dominate it, you are on page 100 perhaps. keyword: Sterling Silver Jewelry still hundreds of pages you are on like page 5. keyword: Sterling Silver Bracelets hundreds of Google pages but the niche is way smaller and with a little help you could get to #1 there, and who are you bringing in to your site? Your exact customer, someone looking for Sterling Silver Bracelets.
