Default Question about timing out?

I noticed if I leave the tab with the forums to do something else and come just a little while later, I am logged out. Is there some way I am missing for me to increase the time before that happens? Or is it a board wide function? I usually have 6-10 tabs going at once and rotate around and it seems like these forums log me out very quickly. Thanks!

How long are we talking? I think it's set to 5 minutes? I'll check when I get home (in ~ 7 days ).

If shorter than 5 I'll extend... That being said what do you think would be a good length because I know what you're saying it has happened to me a few times.

If you are the only one using the system consider having the always sign in check box. On many of my PC's I'm logged in always the moment I open the page.

No problem - I am the only one and I'll tick the box when I want to stay logged in. Thanks.

I always just keep it set to leave me signed in, too. Makes life easier (no constant logging in hassle)....and I'm all about the easy and cutting corners, hehe.

Yes dear, hehe. There are several of us here actually. Hope you stick around here more...it's a fun, informative place here.

And well, I'm the smiley queen, so you never know what quirky smiley I'm gonna pop out next.

Oh, and I'm a Firefox tab-aholic, most times having 30+ tabs up (and considering I have three different laptops, depending on the situation, 'each' one of those have many, many tabs up at a time).....so I know the frustration of tabbing out. Keeping yourself signed in almost always prevents timing out issues....and if it doesn't, at the very least, have it set to automatically save your password so it's a one-click process to sign back in and view the page you were on again.

This post brings up 2 wonderful points:

1) We need a favicon
2) We need more smilies

Once we go to the dedicated server I will fix both. I've tried with the favicon but obviously not hard enough. It does show up on the main domain but not here. I need to look through some old PM's and give it some more attention as I always loose the forum as well when I have dozens of tabs open!

Has the check mark helped the login problem?

I've been bugging you for months to get the favicon issue solved....and hinting about it all over the place. Of course, you already know this, but it's another opportunity for me to remind you, um, "you need a favicon!"

Sorry to ruin your conversation guys but shouldn't the timeout be at least 10mins 5 seems to short. The kettle takes 3 to boil so by the time i get back i'm logged out !

It's just a tad annoying and 'keep me signed in' is no use as I'm on a network.

Cheers,
Martyn

Now I just need to figure out how to change that. I will change it; I'm just hesitant to make any changes when the whole site is moving homes at the end of this week. Would of been last week but didn't want to move files before a trip in case of the unmentionable.

Thanks for feedback, I think 10 minutes would be more civil as well.
