Starting a forum from scratch is a challenge, I have only done it twice and it was painful at times, it is nice when posts are made/replied to and threads continue by themselves, just takes time, a competition always helps!

It is definately very difficult. I"ve been talking to alot of people and it's no walk in the park. I like to compare it to a launching a space shuttle; once in orbit you're ok but you need to use all of your fuel to get there so thats what I'm trying to do now.
Most popular methods I"ve heard of are ICO-CONTENT & Paid Posting. I dont' believe in either; the ico-content grabs questions and answers from Yahoo. I looked at a board with it and it was awfully spammy looking! The paid posters just want some small $ for poor quality posts as a whole. Also on the ethical issue I decided against either. I wouldn't want to be talking to some robot or people who are just paid to type "Ya I agree!" or "Awesome!" lol. It will take time but this is a popular blog directory and blog review so this forum already does get alot of traffic. The more who join will only inspire others. Ultimiately everyone here has somethign to share and teach / learn about blogging and the internet so I believe it will get going... Just like most good things it will come in time. Either way thanks to everyone for joining thus far and all those to come! Looking forward to it, Rob |

Generally its patience, I wouldn't do ico-content either. I have used paid posting on one and that helped for the first month but there were conditions set down like posts had to be over 15 words and all grammatically correct and relevant.
Your already doing well and I'd agree that just time is needed to build her up.

They say patience is a virtue for a reason
We have good days and bad days. I truly believe that the key though is to put up alot of really good information for the search engines to pick up. If someone comes here through a keyword search and finds that lots of people are interacting and any question they may have will get a quick friendly response they'll be much more likely to join. Ahh there is no REAL substitute for "time".Quote:

And Content is King!

I am relieved that Bloggeries is going for quality rather than quantity. Content is way more important than bells and whistles. Anything worth having is worth waiting for. Indeed patience is a virtue. By building slowly and with an eye on quality, this forum will become the better for it. I may be new to blogging, and to forums, but these principles work in all areas of life. Too often in our society, we go for the quick fix. But the quick fix often lacks substance.
Thank you for holding to your principles.

I think you've all already proven your points given how far the forum has come just since this thread started. So way to go everyone!

I agree that you should continue doing what you are doing. Having a small community filled with knowledgable and helpful members is much more important that having a busy forum filled with junk. Offerring incentives to increase activity usually creates said junk and after you remove the incentives the activity ceases. This leaves the forum worse off than before. Instead of unregistered viewers seeing the quality forum that once existed, that see pointless posts after pointless post. This leads them to believe your forum is junk and they never register.
