Default Yearblook - Competition to find the best blog posts

Hi all,

We just launched a new website for blogs - Yearblook.com. Yearblook is a competition to find each day’s best blog posts. At the end of the year, the 365 best posts (1 from each day) will be published in a book (a real, printed book, you will find it on Amazon).

To participate go to Yearblook - Where blogs write history / Login and add your posts, then tell your readers to come vote for you.

The site was only opened up to the public on Sunday, so right now it is fairly easy to get yourself voted to the top. But as the site grows, so will the competition. Signing up and promoting your entry early on will give you a substantial advantage.

Ted

Great idea. Best of luck with it. It's unfortunate that it comes down to who promotes it most rather than being really good entries, but hopefully you'll get plenty to even out.

This is a good idea, but I fear this end up getting bogged down with MMO sites.

There are many articles I'd submit, but I only try to get my readers go and vote for me a once or twice a quarter.

I try to keep my site on topic, rather than blog about blogging.

@ TFGBlog.com - The competition and the book is for the entire year of 2008. You can submit anything since January 1, 2008.

@QuirkyJessi - We're working hard to strike the right mix of highest number of votes wins vs. best posts win. In the terms of service we make it explicit that getting the highest ranking doesn't guarantee inclusion. I think there is probably also going to be some form of publication of "editor's favorites" or "best of the rest" to highlight the gems that didn't get traction.

@EverythingEverywhere - Dominance by any sub-genre is also something that we're concerned about preventing. If it gets to be an issue we'll take steps necessary to re-balance. At the end of the year, this book should be a mosaic of the blogosphere, not the MMOsphere.

also @ EverythingEverywhere - we're working on getting a digg/stumbleupon style plugin that you can add to each post to not constantly be asking readers to vote, but in the interim we suggest "vote for me" next to buttons in the side column or something else unobtrusive.

Thanks for the great feedback.
