Default 10 Solid Suggestions for a Beginner Blogger

Bill Slawski from SEO by the SEA is well respected in the search amongst other communities. This is just one of many recommended bloggeries from his blog.

What Suggestions Would You Offer a Beginning Blogger? -SEO by the SEA

Thoughts?

No offense, but that post is exactly why most of the "blogs about blogging", MMO, and SEO sites are totally garbage. Those "tips" could have been cut and paste from any suggestion list for any subject.

Learn to listen? Learn to be human? Learn to build? Come on.

Weak, empty meaningless platitudes isn't real advice.

I'm DYING for a site to come around where they offer real DATA about what works and what doesn't. Almost every site has devolved to Stewart Smalley-esque self-improvement fluff.

That's mainly a search engine optimization blog. I know what you're saying but for many just starting out should be helpful. I had to learn to listen

I wish that SEO types had hard evidence for what they preach. As it stands today I have only found two studies on ranking attributes that I believe to be worth reading. The best one was in German and so I had to put it through Google translator.

Oh my, I think that blog drifts more to social marketing, as I do not see much seo in it.
Thoughts ? Well, I do not know how rich Mr Slawski is, but somehow the words of Tevye's song express my feelings

The most important men in town would come to fawn on me!
They would ask me to advise them,
Like a Solomon the Wise.
...
Posing problems that would cross a rabbi's eyes!
And it won't make one bit of difference if I answer right or wrong.
When you're rich, they think you really know!

I think that those ten points are good advice as far to start from. They may help the beginning blogger to approach blogging with the right attitude, and that will lead to a better quality blog that readers will appreciate much more.

As some mentioned earlier, there are no stats. However, I think the whole point of the bloggery is that blogging isn't all about stats, its about blogging for the right reason. The stats follow.

Those are great tips for someone just starting out. I've learned a lot of those things on my own over the last few months, but it sure would have been a lot easier to know them up front.
