I don't know of any *good* web hosts that will host you for free. However, if all you want is a domain name, you should be able to register one for $10 or less and point it to a free blog on Blogger or Wordpress.com.

Good thinking. Make a landing page on the domain with a link to your blogspot account or wherever it is currently hosted. When you get to the point that you are making some money and are very serious about it than get hosting and move the blog if you wish. From the minute you put up the splash page start promoting your domain name and not your blogspot so if/when you make the change you'll already have alot of quality inbound links to your blog.

You can find cheap webhosting though. Hawk Host has a $3.95 a month plan. That should be more than sufficient for a while.

Best of luck!
Rob

With a free web host, you get what you pay for in terms of service and support.

That said, you can get a free web host with a Wordpress installation, which is something nearly unheard of. I have a series of tutorials on getting started with them at: * The Make Your Own Website for Free Series*by*Online Opportunity

You absolutely must, for your best interests, get your own domain name and point it to your free blog. Doing so will let you grow and switch to paid hosting when your income permits, without losing any links or readers.

I don't have using your own domain name in the tutorial, but if you need help getting it working let me know.

Jay

Not strictly true, several of my friends have never paid for hosting in their lives! I was hosted for free for several months when I was between hosts. If you know someone with a reseller - be nice to them!

That's true, don't underestimate the power of networking. So, anyone with a reseller account want to be friends? ;-)

I can understand that...I've seen those deals where you can get a reseller account with 500 sites for $50 a month. Seems like a great deal until you think about all the customer service hassles you'd have with 500 customers!

^ ever since my old host died I've been paranoid about backing up my data and if I had hostees I'd back theirs up too which'd probably lead to copywrite issues!

Then i'd feel guilty if they were having problems so I'd install things for them! Thankfully now I can install WP in seconds (I hate fantastico) and I can just shove one of my themes on there for them to hack away at!

I'd just end up feeling so responsible for them! I think my account has a limit of 20 cpanels not sure though!
