I wish I did, I promote promote promote, and do all that is required, but it seems the minute I can't promote... One or two days... my traffic slows down to a crawl.. I am finally getting traffic from the search engines, a little more now then ever, and it has been a long haul for that. I sometimes get discouraged, but keep on anyways cuz I just never know when I will blog about the right thing at the right time.

I have noticed that most blogs that seem to be in the higher rankings are tech blogs, or gossip blogs, mine is neither so I am thinking I may never get it high in the ranks, and am thinking I just may make myself content with that and keep adding quality content.

What was the Post on that you got 15,000 people?
this post did.

this one got onto dig, and got just under 10,000 uniques..

Funny enough I never thought they would... Certainly did not write it for that purpose...

that is also my motto... I just keep on posting stuff that I feel I want to publish, and from time to time, it gets a hit on social bookmarking... What I see is that from every "hit" post, I keep a few % of new visitors that continue to come back after that...
And slowly one forms a community of "faithful" readers.
But the moment one stops of publishing good content, they fade away. so it is continuous "work". Although I don't feel like it is "work" really. I love to write...

Interesting blog and I can see why you got so many readers. Why don't you have adsense on your Blog as you're giving up a lot of found money unless you don't need it which is cool.

I had adsense a long time ago... But I did not think it was worth the trouble, really.. and I had a hard time to keep the adsense ads "in tune" with what I published about...

e.g. I posted a blog post about the situation of aid workers in Afghanistan, and the next thing I knew was ads would appear "meet women in Afghanistan"...

Was not what I wanted... Man of principles

Talking about Google Adsense, aside from making it "in tune" with the content of the page, is it really worth it?

I mean, if Google is paying you $100 for the traffic on your site, they are making more than $100 off you! That should be the concept, otherwise, Google would be losing money providing Adsense service. It doesn't matter how Google does it to convert the traffic on your website into their profit, at the end Google is making money off you! Generally speaking that is.

Maybe we should find ways to make the best use of our own traffic
This principle also applies to people who pay for advertising space (those 125x125, 468x60 banners...etc.) on your website. They are paying you because they believe they can make money off your traffic.

P.S. Netbook Giveaway Contest's deadline is approaching!!

Not worth it, according to me. Had it for a while, did not like it and then stopped advertising. 4 months later someone emails me asking if he can put an ad. We agreed. And then 3 others came. That gives me about $1,000 per year. Subtracting the costs for domainhosting, flickr, etc.. I have a bit of money left which I use in a social project (also run on the blog), making micro finance loans in developing countries.

And in the spirit of the topic of this thread: that project by itself attracted quite a number of "steady visitors"... People are interested in bloggers doing something about this crazy world. and like to participate!

Nice blog, Peter. Great read. I used to work along the lines of an aid worker, looking after the welfare of my countrymen who crossed borders (illegally) to another country. It's a thankless job and I sacrificed my time with my family to help strangers most of whom do not understand why you're helping them. I'm relieved it is part of my past now and I'm moving along.

No proof that's just my gut instinct. You can tell that they're foreign by the poor English and total ridiculous claims and statements they make. I'm not singling out this forum as this seems to exist on any website forums in regards to increasing traffic.
Before I switched to wordpress, my old Asian celebrity blog was getting 3.4K unique visitors a day (referrals, direct traffic, and search engine traffic approximately the same proportions). However, because the blog focused on photos over text, a lot of foreign visitors who may not know English would visit it. I think that's one of the advantages of a photo blog, since photos are language neutral (but unfortunately, this photo blog is not gender neutral)
