Is there a super-dummies book I can read?? LOL I am new to blogging, I have a teeny personal blog that I would really like to expand, and gain a readership. I just don't know what to do!! I totally do NOT understand the whole keyword thing, I went to the keyword service at Google, and nothing happened when I entered in words... I am also going to be starting a new blog on my website, and I would love some tips on how to really do it up right, maybe earn a few dollars from it. That one will be a WordPress blog, hosted on my website. Does anyone have some REAL beginner tips for me?? Thanks! maureen |

Hi Maureen, No need to go out and buy a book. The internet has EVERYTHING you need and more .For starters read some of the threads here. http://www.bloggeries.com/forum/blog...ls-discussion/ You can click on the top thread and go to all the articles. It kind of explains the whole blogging world. If you have lots of questions you've come to the right place whenever you have a question REGARDLESS of what it is just make a new thread and someone or a few will answer with there thoughts. You'll be getting your answer and making sure the next person in your shoes finds the information as well. Regarding keywords. Keywords are terms that help search engines find related content. When you type in "Time Square New York" you are hoping for info related to that and most quality search engines deliver it. If your a personal blog all about life in Detroit then you may wish to use the term "Life in Detroit" as an anchor for links to your site to help promote the fact that you are telling search engines this is what my content is about. FWIW if your beginning don't obsess on them. Just write descriptive titles and posts and you'll indirectly be targeting keywords. From personal experience I found google liked 3-5% density of keywords on the page which is what happens often when written naturally so don't worry and just keep blogging. Read up and ask questions here and you'll be on the right track for sure. Thanks for joining and what is your current blog? Rob Quote:

At first, though, don't worry too much about keywords. You'll learn that as you go, and there are ways to get readers without needing to do any keyword research. The great things about blogs is that, when you learn a better way of doing something, you can go back and edit old posts to bring them up to speed, making it look like you knew it all along. The two things I'd recommend as a first step, would be: 1) Get a domain name, and point it to your Blogger blog. That way people can link to your domain name instead of to Blogger, and it makes it easier to change to Wordpress if you want to later. 2) Join a blogging community site like MyBlogLog.com, and visit and comment on other blogs on similar subjects to yours. You'll get some readers that way, and build some friendships. I think you've got a great start on your blog, and it's a topic that should attract readers. Lots of parenting blogs out there to comment on and network with, too! Jay |
