Adding Color and Images to Your Blog Increases its Appeal

Lots of people have killer content but no images and plain generic templates.

Obviously if you have no content people won't be interested but if you have great content and a poor layout it may devalue your content by giving the first time reader a less than positive impression of your site.

Try and incorporate as many graphics as possible. By that I mean if you are discussing something that could be helped by a photo take the time to find one or put one of your own up. Also try and give your site a color / feel which is in keeping with your niche.

I've just seen alot of blogs lately and this would be one of my first pieces of advice to most people new to the blogosphere.

Windows Live Writer is still in beta, but it's a great way to add images and screenshots into the body of posts. That's my one gripe with Wordpress, is that it isn't easy to embed images in posts. Live Writer will work with Wordpress to get it done in a very intuitive manner.

As far as blog layouts, I started out with a plain text theme, because I'm terrible at creating graphics or even assembling existing graphics so it all looks good. But the plain text theme looked so bland, I finally paid for a logo and found a theme to match it.

I can't imagine I'd have even the readership I do have if I were still using the plain text theme. Even I hated looking at it after a week or two!

It is a widely known fact that people form their impressions in a matter of just a few seconds. A boring looking blog is often dismissed as a boring blog. Create a blog lacking visually appeal and there is a great chance that a reader will never read the actual content to judge you upon it.
