Technorati Tags - What are they good for?

What exactly do Technorati Tags do for me? Get me into their search engine?

Also, should i manually link to other web sites, or continually link to technorati tag pages? It seems like it would take an awful long time to find several relevant sites for every post. And i have seen people link their tags back to their own post or blog. What is the advantage in that? :]

Much though I hate to say it I haven't gotten much traffic from Technocrati. It doesn't seem too great to me.

I am with Nathan, Techno doesn't do much for me either, but none the less, I keep plugging away at it.

I think part of the problem is that I don't actively search out links. I just wait for others to link to me, slowly but surely.

I still ping them every time I post (just in case) - but I haven't seen much. But (as Nathan just said) I don't actively search on the site. I spend more time on Stumble and Digg.

I actually don't even waste my time pinging. Theoretically Blogger pings a master ping service that in turn pings Technocrati and all the other services out there.

Yeah, but my Skinny blog is on it's own platform, so I take no chances I'd rather waste 30 seconds pinging a few bookmarked sites than miss out.

Technorati Tags are actually AWESOME, but only if you blog about stuff relating to news events.

I've had posts on About.com (about the Eurovision Song Contest) & an Indian News Site (About the world cup final) which were found on Technorati.

Surprisingly enough, people still use the service, so it's well worth submitting to.
