Hi, Curious about the legality of selling Blogspot Typepad Wordpress blog accounts? I heard it's illegal to sell a blogspot blog as you never really owned it? Is this true? Also how about the others? I'm really curious. If you have any insights or knowledge on this please let me know.

I can't see how it can be illegal. I mean what you are really selling is the content and the time you put into developing the blog and making it popular. You aren't selling the domain name because you never owned it.

Blogger 'Terms of Service' clearly states that you cannot sell it unless you get wirtten permission from Google. Quote:

Hmm, well what I was saying is that even though you publish things on Blogger, you still own the posts, the images, everything that you put on the blog. When you transfer the blog to another person's ownership you are giving them everything you wrote in effect. Selling them those posts is not selling part of the Service use of the service or access to the service. The service just displays the posts for others to see. What you are selling is the copyright to your own written material. I think that if you avoided saying that you were selling a blog and said that you were selling the posts from it and would throw in the name free of charge you might be able to get away with it.

Thanks Mint Blogger, Nathan - I thought same thing originally but doesn't work that way. Lot's of fine print. So the others - Wordpress, Typepad etc... Does it clearly state you can't sell without permission as well? This is a MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR reason I am not into free hosting.

| Well, to some extent I wish that I had started out with a self-hosted blog, but like I said I don't feel like spending another ten months building up PR on a new domain name. I'm coming up on the one year anniversary for Inkweaver Review and the blog is really starting to take off.

That would be really cool.. The problem is that you can't tell who is going to succeed and keep on with their blog and who is going to fail because of poor writing quality, etc.
