Default Trackbacks

On my Skinny blog there is a section in my template called 'trackbacks'. (I use something from Go Daddy.com called Quick Blogcast) Until today I've never seen anything come up in this category. Today, though, I've had about 8 requests for approvals. Now, this would probably be a good thing if it wasn't all spam. Every one of them has been for some kind of pill. I've had one for Xanex, one for Prozac, a few for diet pills, and a couple for some that I'd never heard of. Where are they coming from? I've declined them all because I don't want spam on my site, but I don't know why I'm getting them.

Where would a 'real' trackback come from and what would it look like? Just wondering what it would look like it this format...

Thanks!

These are spam-bots lurking out on the web finding new blogs and trying to spam. A real trackback will come from a blog of similar niche.

Unfortunately, more than 50% of your track backs, or pings are going to be spam. Just keep the list clean and you'll be fine.

Trackbacks are occasionally low PR blogs or sites trying to siphon off PR from a popular site, but sometimes they are legitimate bloggers who liked your post and linked to it so their readers could find it.

What are recommended trackback services (hope that is the right way to ask the question)?

You can enable trackbacks right on your Blogger blog. I think that Wordpress also has an option to enable trackbacks. Basically it means that every blog that links to one of your posts gets an outgoing link on the page of your post.

Yeah, I think that's how it works on Blogger - I've never messed with it, though. With my Quick Blogcast for Skinny I get emails asking for confirmations. It's really weird. I confirmed one once just to see what it looked like. It showed up above the comments in it's own category called "Trackbacks" and looked like a comment. It was weird. I deleted it though cause it was just spam.

Basically trackbacks show up when another blog links to your blog. Unfortunately, most of the time its spam. But sometimes it will be a legitimate reader who liked your post.

yeah saddie, the same kinds were disturbing my site, either a sex spam or tramadol or one funny drug or the other. Someone suggested akimset and that was what helped.
