Default Godaddy.com Domain Transfer To Old Hosting Company

You can accomplish this in a few ways.

#1 you can forward your new domain name at Godaddy.com to a folder under your existing hosting company. You can find that under your domain control panel.

#2 In the Godaddy domain control panel you can specify the name server of your hosting company and change the information in there.

# 3 At your existing hosting company you can apply for a domain name transfer. It usually costs a few dollars to do a domain transfer depending upon your hosting company but this is really the right way to do it to make sure everything is in one place.

Once your transfer is set up you will receive an e-mail at the address you registered with at with Godaddy asking if it is ok to do the domain transfer. You will also get an email from your existing host making sure that you want to accept the new domain.

Next you have to enter a few authorization codes in your control panel and in a few days you should see the domain show up in your hosting account.

Make sure your domain is unlocked at Godaddy first otherwise the emails will just to into space.

I'm curious to know what hosting account you are using and what they charge if any to do the domain transfer.

If you get stuck give a shout..

It's highly recommended that you keep your domain registration and hosting separate. If your host goes down, there goes your domain also. There are other reasons too, especially when some hosts will register the domain for you, but keep it in their name. They will then have control of it, and can keep it hostage. 1and1 is (in)famous for doing that.

So to shawal, your best bet (and the safest) is to log into your godaddy account, and change the nameservers to the ones you were given in your welcome email from your new host. That's really all you need to do. Then you just wait for dns propogation to update. It can take a full 48 hours, just so you know. But often, it will be only a few hours.
