I am just wondering whats the average traffic for a new blog. I just want to see how I am doing compared to how I should be doing.

@cipals15 is about right. Just remember the hardest blog to start is your first. Once you get "in the game" you have people who appreciate your writing and traffic you can link to your new sites etc. I think my first few months would be under 100 uniques and most definitely under 300 a month. Forums and comments were always the way I'd get going before the engines picked up. Even then you still have to compete with more established and "trusted" sites. It's all good though; have to start somewhere right?

Even with my very short time of blogging I would say that it is difficult to answer this question because alot of it depends on how popular the niche. Some niches are going to have tons of people interested and others will only have a trickle. For instance my niche is very narrow but I have had 39 pages indexed already in just 6 weeks and rank first page for 3 keywords. In just 6 weeks I have gotten traffic from 105 different key words. But only recieve 10-12 uniques a day. A friend of mine has a blog on entertainment and received after just two weeks a stream of over 40 uniques a day and he does not rank on the first page for any of his key words. I think it is best to find people with the same niche and ask them about their traffic patterns. Just my .02 and may not be all that meaningful since I am a newbie.

A new blog is going to barely get any visitors until there's some work put into it and people actually knows it exists.

Also remember the hardest blog to market is your 1st. Once you get out there people know you through your blog, forums, social media it's easier.

I don't think you should worry about comparing to other blogs, because every blog and every blogger is different. Set the goals that you, personally, would like to meet; work towards those goals; and stop every so often to review and revise them as needed.

I would have to say I think it really depends on your niche, your blog, and promoting your site. It's really hard to say XX number is average for any blog.
