Hi all, Think I've just lost all my content on my blog as my host has decided to cancell my account with no prior warning. How do you all back up your blogs and how often do you do it? Cheers Phil

There's a couple different ways to do it. The most important thing to back up though is your SQL database. Assuming you've got phpmyAdmin (what most hosts use) its fairly simple: On the front page, there should be a link that says export. Click it. Click select all, to select all your databases. Down at the bottom, click the check box for "Save as file." I would select one of the compression options, it doesn't really matter which one. Click ok. It will ask you to save a file, which will be your database. Its significantly more complicated to restore backups, but there are plenty of people who are willing to do it rather cheaply (like me, $10-20 depending on how much needs to be restored). If you need help with that, I'll try and detail the problem if you email me. As far as backing up the rest of the stuff, just open up your favorite FTP client (I like filezilla), and download everything. Its just as easy to restore, just upload what you downloaded.

Skolor, thanks for the time and offer to help me back up the posts via PM. The tip was very useful. I was lucky enough to prove to my host that this was their error and got 3 months 3 hosting out of it. To top it all off the database was still in tact so besides the theme, which I now have a new one of. Everything worked out alright. I'll definately be stating to back up on a regualr basis though. Does FTPing all the files hosted on that site not include the actual blog posts then?

Yeah. The theme, and wordpress installation is saved in what are called "flat" files, they don't (or very rarely) change. The actual posts are saved (usually) in a MySQL database, because database entries are much better with changing regularly.
