I agree, make the switch. Unfortunately you will lose your PR but you can still keep your blogspot blog there and re-direct the traffic from a message on the site.

Actually, you don't even have to leave a message for people to click through on. You can have it set to redirect automatically!

Default Blogspot or Self Hosted

I wrote about this back during my "I did not read the fine print" and absolutely agree across the board.. get your own domain name.

It is so easy to say it, but when you are new to blogging, the free services really do get you going.. I don't know about blogspot but wordpress does have a re-direct feature.. I eventually deleted all but the highest ranking posts on wordpress dot com, afraid of duplicate issues..and just waited for the se's to pick up the new site.. loosing a pr4 site..but within a few months of a push it re-bounded to a pr3...

And you can help catch your PR back up by doing a few things. Contact Technorati after the change and let them know you've changed domains. They can't give you all your backlinks or anything, but they'll merge/connect your own domain with the new one and give you a boosted number. Contact anyone who has you in their blog rolls and have them update their links. Anywhere else that you can contact about the change, go ahead and let them know to update their links as well. It'll start creating new backlinks for you at your new domain (in addition to making sure you redirect your traffic from old links, too).
Yeah, it is better to move sooner then later. Think about it for a while.
