I've been blogging on my current blog for a few months, and have had few visits. One notable exception was a post on Baha'ism, which recieved a few whiny replies from Baha'is whom I had apparently offended. I've followed recommendations such as using Digg/SU, replying to other blogs, submitting to directories, etc. When I write a post, I also go on forums where I participate and link if the topic happens to be being discussed. Still not much of an improvement, and even those who do choose to visit rarely, if ever, leave a comment. Are there other ways to get more traffic/comments? |

Just keep creating quality content and try and collaborate with others in your niche more established. Once you built up a good blog try and do a guest post for someone larger in your niche. That will expose you to your core audience and hopefully those that like it will continually return to your blog. Lot's of competition in today's world; must do it with passion and better than the rest to some extent. If you love it keep going everything will fall into place. It aways does.

Keep on doing what should be done and don't forget to experiment. If you're not happy with how the things are going, change the things around and see how your readership embrace it. Collaborate with your readers, and keep 'em coming. Good Luck! |

Are you looking for a large number of casual readers, or a smaller group of engaged readers? Each calls for a different strategy. In either case, when it comes to user engagement, you need patience. Good luck!

Both Nadzmc and ozanonay offer quality advice. If you're writing in a somewhat obscure niche are you checking your keywords at all or just freestyle writing? A little bit of keyword selection magic can go a long way in increasing the odds of getting your piece viewed.

| Quote: Also, a minor point, but do "controversial"-type posts gain more attention, or is it better to steer away from them? I am not out to offend anyone per se, but am willing to publish my thoughts even if there is a chance that they might offend. |

That should help you get started. Controversy can cause attention but long term if you're just trying to be controversial you may offend / turn off people who otherwise love what you have to say. It can be used but I typically shy away from controversy online unless I'm passionate about something. Apart from that I leave it alone.

Try forum marketing. There are definitely a few huge forums in any niche (unless your niche is one-legged violin playing midgets or something...) and they are GREAT ways of getting people to your site. Just join them and cite your site as a resource.
