Default Best Host?

I've decided I'm not going to renew my Bluehost hosting as the entire thing has been getting more and more downtime and it's increasingly irritating to work with.

Any suggestions for a new host? Preferably a cost-effective one.

I'd go with HostGator if I were you; I ran this site with no downtime ever on a basic plan. Then I also went to dedicated server.

I am on a shared server at Host Gator and haven't ever had a problem. Their online customer support is superb. I would recommend checking out HostGator.

You can't beat them, because they do straight up pricing. For every mb of storage you use, it costs you $0.01 a month. For ever 10 mb of transfer, it'll cost you another $0.01. For running a SQL database, it'll cost you $0.01 a day.

Sure, you aren't getting the promises of 200 gigs of transfer of month for $5, but realistically, they make their money off of overcharging on package deals like that. I get moderate traffic. Between the 3 sites I'm currently running, I get a couple hundred hits a day. My old plan was charging me $6 a month for that, and I had noticable downtime; about once a week it was down for an hour or two. With nearlyfreespeach.net, I've had a grand total of 20 minutes of, not even downtime, time when it took about 5 seconds to load, in the month I've been with them. In addition to that, its cost me.... $1.18 in that month.

HostGator is where it is at right now. I have all my domains (about 20) hosted there with NO downtime and excellent customer service.

How about NearlyFreeSpeech? I've heard it's quite convenient.

Otherwise I would checkout Web Hosting Reviews & Rating - Best Web Hosting 2008 for more information on the top hosts. There are reviews and I think it's set up pretty well to help you decide on a host.

I like godaddy, their good and seem to keep up.

Not to mention, their 24/7 customer service is amazing, If you ever call them and have a problem they can get it done in about 5 minutes, and no BS either...at least this has been from my experience.
