I have been with Hostgator for close to three years now and have been very satisfied with them so far.

Seems the majority are keen about host Gator, might give it a go sometime in the future when I get a personal blog up and running.

HostGator is an ethical company. One of the best places for honest reviews is at Web Hosting Talk - The largest, most influential web hosting community on the Internet
Although there are a few disgruntled Hostgator customers, it usually works out that they (the customers) are at fault. The owner of the company posts there often, and is very proactive at support. In fact, I once saw him offer a customer $200 if they could prove they didn't get a refund.

They really are the best for shared hosting. Another site that gets rave reviews is downtownhost.com. Their support is also excellent, and the owner is always at the webhostingtalk forum.

If you're looking for a VPS, I can say without a doubt the absolute best is the one I use, knownhost.com. Their support cannot be beat. It even includes best effort support for third party applications (like WordPress). The few times I have contacted support, I have received the auto answer and the okay, all done in the same email check (every five minutes). And they are fully managed, so you don't have to know anything about a VPS to use them.

Stay away from bluehost, 1and1 and lunarpages. They all have major problems.

Thanks for sharing that wealth of knowledge; anything that can help new bloggers avoid downtimes / delays / frustration is good. Would be a shame if someone gave up blogging due to problems with host or if they even wasted valuable would be blogging time sorting out issues.

I'm very happy with Hostgator; bloggeries.com has never known another host.

I've just moved a client away from lunarpages. Compared to other low-cost hosts, the downtime was not high, exactly, but high enough to be unacceptable - expecially since it often seemed to occur in peak hours. Plus, you have to go through several layers of a pretty hokey interface to get to cPanel... just found that annoying, as it served no apparent purpose. It would be alright for a personal site, probably - but why bother? It is hard to beat Hostgator.

Host Gator? Hmm, I'll have to think about choosing that one. I was thinking about getting BlueHost. But now that I see this, I think I'll go with Host Gator.

Thank you for creating the thread.

No problem, haha. It's behaving right now, but it's kind of like steam. It's powerful, but when it messes up, it takes you out with it. (google steam powered cars if that made no sense...)

The only Host that I have used is HostIcan, and to be honest I have had no problems with them at all. Their customer service is great and their servers are always up.

Might wanna try them out if you haven't. They also have some pretty decent deals for the prices they offer.
