Longest You've Waited to Get Indexed by Google?

Well, when I write a post on my blog, it is indexed the next day.I look up what I have written by Googling it and there it is.

I'm still waiting for them to index mine, but it's very new. Are there requirements I didn't know about or something or do they just decide who they are going to index.

Pardon my ignorance here... but what does it mean to get indexed by Google? How do I check?

A couple of friends are doing the back end of things in my site and there are still so many things I am not aware of... Can someone please shed some light?

Wow- I was up in a few days...do we know what causes it to be indexed faster?

I usually find submitting a sitemap to webmaster tools does the trick although sometimes they say its included in the index and fail to mention its about page 800.
