No. Page Rank is a matter of authority and you get authority from links. Get quality and quantity.

I wouldn't worry too much about pagerank since it is not an official standard across all platforms and SEs. Google's is built on a number of factors, but the most important for you is the number of backlinks. The more you have, from quality sites (especially .edu and .gov) the better your rank in the SEs. This is generally the same as pagerank, but not necessarily.

I'd just focus on building traffic and having good content - pagerank will come.

Agreed PR is dead, it was primary tool used by the link sellers but the Google punishments have all but put pay to that as a successful promotional tool. Concentrate on traffic as this is the lifeblood of any site, ensure that this is human traffic to not generated...anyone can get 1 million visits from the freeware bots but what is the point!!
