Arrow Wordpress Wish List

Here are the items I wish Wordpress would consider adding in a later release.

I'm sure you can think of a few to add.
  1. Adding multiple line breaks in posts easier.
  2. Being able to individually allow no follow or do follow attributes to all links.
  3. An in Wordpress FTP program so I don't have to open up something else if I want to add a plugin or theme.
  4. Automatic SEO, why do we need to add a plugin for this, it is so basic.
  5. A sign up for a newsletter or RSS feed button standard.
  6. Better image control

I myself have to sometimes play with the visual editor to get the lines breaks just right, I think you're on to something with suggestion 1.

Suggestion 2 also sounds like something that could easily be added to the link configuration box.

For option 3, I have discussed with Matt Mullenweg when I had the chance at WordCamp Dallas and the good news is, WordPress appears to be headed down the road of automation. At some point in the future, WordPress will have built in browsers to view the theme and plugin repository. Then, you'll be able to click on a button to install the theme or plugin onto your webserver. What would you think of something like that?

Option 4 is not practical in the sense that many times, SEO especially when dealing with things such as .htaccess files depends on the server configuration. Automattic SEO from WordPress might jeopardize their compatibility on so many servers. I think this should be left up to the plugins as is.

Not quite sure what the issue is with option 5. This is THEME dependent. If it's not in your theme, you can add it manually but the majority of themes practically support RSS for POSTS, COMMENTS and some of them even come with the ability to subscribe via email. This is not a WordPress issue, it's a theme issue.

Whats wrong with the image control in WordPress 2.5? What are you looking for in terms of control?

By the way, all of those suggestions you mentioned, you should visit WordPress › WordPress Ideas and see if those are already ideas that have been suggested by others. If not, submit them as an idea as I doubt the core devs of WordPress will be browsing these forums looking for specific requests.

Default Wordpress Wish List Ideas

Thanks for your comments, actually looking on the Wordpress Ideas site gave me inspiration for this post. I saw many other good wish list suggestions on there too.

It sounds like most of them may be doable in the future, I guess a lot depends upon how many people consider these an issue and how hard they would be to correct. With the auto FTP thing that would be great, it is a hassle with having to remember another password etc. That would be a great thing to be integrated.

I just thought of something else too.. An auto version updater, I know there is a plugin for this but I have not had much success. My ISP, Godaddy has that function in their control panel but they don't always have the latest release.

As far as SEO I would just like a title, description and keyword tag added as part of every post. Wordpress could pull some of that info from the post itself.

I guess you are right about the Email part and being part of the themes not the Wordpress core.

Images? I just want to drop them on a piece of paper and have them stick. ;-)

The WP Dev team? Hey.. I'm here, Your here, and I bet they will be too if they are not already.

I'll poke around further on the Wordpress Ideas site, thanks for sharing the link.

Good suggestions Bruce! I am struggling with the FTP right now, it done took a vacation on me, so need to find a new one. So that point stood out.
