If I figure it out, I'll tell you.

I wrote a textbook review recently with an afiliate link for amazon to see if I could get any sign ups through that. So far none, but I relise I'm a small niche. It does rank well in google though, just behind the amazon.com sites and the actual publisher for the book if you search for 'book name review'.

You'll get the best effect out of affiliate links by using them in posts where you provide a problem your typical reader might have that the product linked to solves. You can also do review types of posts, which mostly helps to attract people who are interested in the product but want more info before buying.

Be honest in both sorts of posts about the good points and bad points about the product. Your readers will appreciate it, and you'll build a lot of credibility.

It's still a numbers game, though. The more people that see the post, the better your chances of making some sales. If you have good SEO factors, and are doing keyword research for your posts, then the posts should continue to attract traffic in the long-term.

To give you an idea of the numbers needed, my post that attracts the most search engine traffic is my one on Inbox Dollars. Since I posted it it's had 6,823 unique visitors. I ended up with about 100 referral signups, for about a 1.5% conversion rate.

Excellent points made here. Don't just run out and ask them to sign up, even if it's part of a contest.

I think there is a lot of trial and error in affiliate marketing, but the ones that have done best for me ($400 one post since aug 07) have been regarding a relevant affiliate to the post topic.

Keep it up, it'll all come to you soon enough. That is part of the reason you join as many programs as you can, the more offers to promote the better chance to make some money!

Be honest. If you tell everybody how bad an affiliate product is, they will believe you when a product is good.

A good example is Vic from Blogger Unleashed .:: Make Money Online Because You Deserve The Truth ::.. For one he only hawks products he uses and likes himself, the second is that he's honest.

If you use a product and like it, then people are more likely to believe you too.
