I was thinking of making my own "Donate to Charles' Trip to Las Vegas" or "Did my blog inspire you, donate to my boat fund".

One thing I've heard is successful is the "Buy me a lunch" concept. Putting the button there and encouraging users to send you a small amount, only $5 or so. I'm not sure how effective it is, but a lot of blogs I've read have said its very effective.

Default Re: Donation Buttons

I've given people money through them numerous times. If you ever solve a problem general or specific and make a walk through put a donation on it. People who you just totally helped in the same exact situation will be inclined to pay if you solved it perfectly. I'll pay $5 for someone who has a walk through that I'm searching and a donation. Not always but often enough...

$5 is not exactly a small sum, $1 dollar is good enough for me, it's free money after all.

Wonder if I were to state explicitly "Please do not donate more than $3 to me! Anything more than $3 will be invested in cigarettes and alcohol to damage my body", will people be more willing to donate to me? hehe

The Paypal Donation button works, Paypal can be trusted blindly on these things. And besides its easy to set up, and if you havnt received any donations thru such a button its probably not the button that isnt working, but your site/blog that doesnt generate enough traffic.

The "Buy Me A Beer" one has some pretty good reviews. I personally would rather not solicit my readers to just blindly donate.
This is why I think the new Top Spots module is good because a $1 gets you a link in return.
