Great information!

1) Write the post. Do not think or worry about image placement.
I couldn't agree more. Occasionally a post of mine will be 'sparked' by a photo, so I keep in mind that it will be my top photo, but 99% of the time, I write the post first and then consider image placement.

Default Re: How To Integrate Photos Into Your Article

I actually prefer not to use tables on my website. I prefer to handle the layout all through CSS. My personal blog is image heavy because it's basically my take on life, my thoughts, my photos. I have a border added to the photos to help them stand out a bit. (like on your older format with the bigger pictures, if you just had a border around them, they would stand out more from the background).

I also prefer a bit larger pic, but that my be my aging eyes saying that.

My next blog layout will have a slightly larger posting area so I can use the flickr plugin with the larger 500px flickr size. It is a smart idea to host those images offsite on flickr. I just haven't redone my layout yet so I can do that at the larger size.
