Oddly enough, the posts I write that do best on StumbleUpon are the ones which don't get many comments. The ones with lots of comments don't get stumbled. I think that is unique to me however and what I write about.

Tell me about it. My grammar's terrible (though it has improved) and I have a bunch of grammar nazis.

I also agree with what Everything Everywhere said. Social media traffic is RUBBISH for comments (usually comments are left on the social media site, rather than yours).

I've found that if you end a post on an unfinished note, with a question, or in some way prompt readers for feedback that this sometimes will help your posts get a few more comments.

Also remember that if people have commented, you should respond either in the comments of that post or in a separate post. As much as you the blogger like the validation of reader input, your readers also appreciate knowing that if they've taken the time to comment, you did indeed notice.

This is pretty much what I do and it has helped. It is a lot of work though, but you can feel the sense of accomplishment as your traffic slowly increases everyday. I got an artificial traffic jump from StumbleUpon but it didn't stick. Now with my day to day grind of commenting on my niche blogs, I can see people comming back.

I have to say, my first week was very discouraging. I did not get a single hit/view. I have a topic that is a bit more selective, in terms of target audience.

However, I did follow some steps on this site (bloggeries) and I have been posting on other sites like mine, and some not like mine. I get visits from both.

I also submitted my site to the usual search engines and blog listings.

Now I am starting to get a regular daily viewer average. It's kind of cool.

I don't feel like I am writing to empty space or just myself. I am writing to REAL PEOPLE!!!

It's very satisfying.

Good luck everyone!

I have a lot of these implement but still not a great amount of comments. The blog I consider to be my best has the fewest comments of all.

It always amazes me too when I see over one hundred comments from other sites and when I read their post, some aren't even thougth provoking.
