Trying to open a .php file with WindowsXP
(I'm installing wordpress at the moment and need to open the file wp-config.php to enter my database details)

The program I have downloaded to do this (PHP 5.2.5), opens up a box with a black background which disappears very quickly.

Can anyone help me by telling me how to open up a .php file?

Yeah, you can open it through Notepad or WordPad.

You can use Notepad or wordpad to open it up, but if you want something free and a bit more feature rich, try this freeware php editor: Homepage of Crimson Editor - Free Text Editor, Html Editor, Programmers Editor for Windows.

I'd try one of the fancier wordpad alternatives. If you can find one that lists line numbers it's a great bonus. UltraEdit is one that comes to mind.
