Editing a bunch of posts...

Excessive editing on a single post back to back can be bad because it can resubmit/re-ping the post repeatedly and appear like spam. Or so I've read anyway.

Regardless, that part isn't quite relevant. I have some time in the next couple days where I'd like to go back and edit a bunch of my posts to include image alt tags like they should. What kinds of effects will this have (the editing process...not the effects of having alt tags)? I won't be turning them into completely new posts...simply editing and saving....so this has no reason to flood RSS feeds with old posts, correct? (It was brought up the other day, so I want to clarify). Is there anything I should be concerned about with editing multiple posts at once like this?

I don't think so. I'm going to PM Everything-Everywhere as he totally redid all his images from flickr if I remember correctly.

Ok, here is the solution of your problems and concerns.

If I am right, you are concerned that if you do excessive editing in older posts in quick succession, the pings from your blog will be considered as spam. Correct?


If you are using Wordpress, use the Maxblogpress Ping Optimizer plugin, to block pings from older posts while you edit them. It is completely customizable and have advanced ping settings for your blog.

I haven't had any problems editing old posts, sometimes they seem to rank better editing them when i include tags and seo type edits

I don't think it will matter. It is a small change and change within a tag, not in body text. Google can tell the difference between those types of chagnes. It isn't like it is looking at a bit count for the page.

When I changed my images, I created a whole new site, so it wasn't a change so much. I still have images on Flickr.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. I've never done a bunch of old posts back to back, but as long as you just do one or two a day at the most you should be fine.

Yeah, which isn't what I want to do. If I'm going to go back and do this, then I want to do it in bulk and just get it over with. Otherwise, it'll never happen, lol.
