Are Images Essential?

In the very beginning, I used at least one photo everyday, and then slacked off a bit later on. Currently, I'm doing the Photo Journal Challenge and specifically posting a picture a day, so it's sort of reawakened my image posting. I think pictures bring an extra dimension to what could be seen as "just plain ol' text" and can liven things up a little bit. They don't work well for everyone, but I prefer reading blog posts that have some color, so I pass that on to my readers, too.

Just make sure that the image you're using falls under this license. It's easy to hop around on Flickr and get out of the licensing you think you're searching on.

Thanks, Kacey. I don't need convincing that pictures add to a blog but I wondered how people get hold of so many pictures. I don't want to take anyone's work without asking, so this is a very useful link to have.

I prefer to see a picture in a post. It draws my attention in.
A blog that doesn't have any color or pictures isn't appealing to me.

I take my own photos for my personal blog, but I know a lot of people need resources for obtaining legal pics for their websites.

I hate it too. I always use other people's pictures as a link to where I found them, as well as providing a link in the text. On the whole people are glad to have their stuff given a new audience, as long as they get the credit. If I'm at all uncertain, I ask.

I'm not much good with photos - although finding out that my phone takes a moderate photo is a plus. I do rely a lot on what I can legally and morally pick up from other people, though, which is why this is so good.

My blog is very heavy on photos. I have a daily photo, I integrate them heavily on my longer posts, and I even use a photo as my background.

Having a daily photo is probably the best thing I've done on my blog.

I don't think a travel blog without photos would work! Having said that, you've got some photos there that are really out of the ordinary. I like the background picture too: that loads first and give me something to look at while I'm waiting for the rest of the page to come up.

I have started using them too and I really like how the blog looks and the articles too. They kinda put some life into it. I like smaller images, like thumbnails almost, but nice and well chosen.

I think it is nice to use images once in a while .. definately use it in every post that you can because it just makes your blog look much more live.

I try to include an image with every post. This is just a personal preference but I have heard good things about doing so.
