Simple method of backing up Wordpress wanted

With all this talk about backing up on the forum I've become a little worried.

I need a simple way of backing up my Wordpress blog.

Whats the simplest way of doing it - is there a very simple plug in or something.

I dont know anything about mysql, cron jobs or the like so my solution needs to be very easy/ well documented.

Any suggestions?

You could always do this through your cpanel, look for something similar to these icons, and follow the prompts. Its pretty simple.


There is a wordpress plugin that will backup just your database.

In your Wordpress dashboard, go to Manage->Export. You'll get a file you can store on your own computer that can be used in an installation of Wordpress to recreate the posts, comments, categories, etc.

This doesn't backup your theme, plugins, and other file based items. I'd recommend a cpanel backup once in a while for that, and an Export based backup very regularly.

The backup plugins are also nice, but they generally produce an SQL file that must be restored via phpMyAdmin, which isn't as convenient as going to the Wordpress dashboard and choosing import.
