It's a tad tricky. I would use Wordpress though since I love the script a lot. And if I wanted to place advertisements I'd purchase a domain/hosting. Anyway .. since I have my own network of sites it's been years since I would rely on anything free. I self host my projects and am free to place as much ads or changes as I want to ..

I use both blogger and wordpress and dont see that changing anytime soon i know people say host your own but if you have a dozen blogs that will add up cost wise. I think hosting your own is fine just so long as you have the time to dedicate to it. |

I never tried Blogger since I used Wordpress since the beginning of my "adventure" I think Wordpress is the perfect tool for me and my blog. I can't ask for more...

I recently switched over to Wordpress from Blogger with my domain name and a new hosting server... so far, no complaints. But if you are going to take blogging seriously, in the sense of trying to make money online, you're going to want to switch to Wordpress... and I wouldn't wait because it's a hassle if you have tons of posts and stuff... |

Blogger is a great and very cheap way to host money making niche search engine traffic targeted blogs. Self-hosted WordPress is what you want for a socially active blog or in situations where you want more complete control. |

>>>>>>2) Wordpress doesn't allow you to insert your own custom widgets (or scripts), but Google does. Wordpress also doesn't allow you to use scripts, which means you can't add adsense, Amazon widgets, your own Javascript statistics tracker, etc. For this reason, I actually switched to Blogger because I need control of my own Google Analytics and adsense There are many places to create your own widgets for free and as long as your theme is "widgetised" which most latest themes are, inserting a widget is a breeze. In fact if I am not wrong, there's a plugin called ANY-HTML that allows you to include almost any webpage that has your javascript or widget. Don't take my word for it - the internet is ever changing so go google for the plugin. >>>>3) Wordpress is limited in your template modification, while Blogger allows you to modify your HTML directly. You have to pay money in Wordpress.com to update your CSS. Although this is true, CSS is not hard to learn. Unless your experience is different from mine, Wordpress themes load faster as it's not static html. >>>>4) Wordpress uses both Categories and Tags/Labels, while Blogger only has Tags/Labels. I believe Categories are better for organizing your post metadata. In Blogger, I am forced to make generic labels so my Label display widget won't span 2 pages. Thus, my labels are not as specific. However, in Wordpress, you can have a category display widget, which is generic. The specific data are put into tags. I chose NOT to use categories in Wordpress and they are not shown in my Wordpress blog. Cos I sometimes get a brain freeze when I realise my post can be in more than 2 categories. Away from categories and hugs to TAGS! And I think more who are using Wordpress will agree. Besides, you do not want to be penalised for "duplicate" content in different categories. >>>>5) People search for tags on Wordpress far more frequently than they do on Blogger. In my experimental site, the Wordpress site had over 2000 tag searches on Wordpress.com while the Blogger one had less than 10 Blogger searches. And that number of people searching by keywords or tags in Blogger is growing. ![]() >>>>>Anyone else have any observations? Perhaps if there are any new bloggers out there who can't choose between Blogger or Wordpress, they can learn something ![]() Wordpress has an extensive range of plugins for photos, video, audio podcasts, the works. Blogger? nah nah neh booboo! |

I still prefer Blogger. And yes, Blogger does have all the options for photos, videos, podcasts, "the works".....they're called "widgets" or "gadgets," though, not plug-ins. It's fully customizable and you have access to changing everything about the HTML....without having to pay a dime.
