Default Which view is better

At the minute all my posts appear with a summary/first part of the post and after about a paragraph you get the "read more" link which takes you to the full post. I am seeing more and more blogs where the whole post is displayed on the page.

Is there any benefit to having the whole post on the home page?
The only reasons I can think of is that it gives the search engines more data to index and it saves the user an extra click.

I do feel however that a user maybe put off my an awfully long home page especially if they only choose to read certain posts.

I was just wondering on what everybody's preferences were and to make sure I'm not missing something important or obvious.

Oh man!

What a doozy. You're gong to get 50% of members saying they like one, the others liking the other. Personally... I don't care as long as the first page isn't TOOO LONG. No sense in having an uber long first page with only ads / navigation covering the top 1/3.

That being said; I think it looks good now. I"d just take away 1 more post from the main page.

Thanks bloggeries. I guess it does come down to personal preference. Being new to all this it just seems that every details has so much to be considered.

Again thanks for the post and comment regarding my blog.

For my blog, I currently have most of the posts set up with a "read more" link just to condense the information a little. I agree with you that it seems like all of the big guys are doing the full-page spread. I am really unsure what move to make, I suppose I will keep things "as-is" for now.

I think it also depends on the habits of your users.

If the majority visit once a week, and you post daily - then it makes sense to have a summary view with a read more link.

If most visitors come daily, then it might make sense to have the full article on the front page.

I might change to a full post for the latest post and then change that to a summary once I add a new post. Now any ideas if there are plug ins to do this or do I need to get organised?

I personally do not like it when I am reading a post and have to click "read more". I usually read more than one post at a time, so having to click back and forth is time consuming.
