I'd go with a hyphen over a .net. I think. Hyphens won't hurt search engine traffic. Sometimes you can add the word "the" to the front of the name. Have you tried that?

I think one hyphen between two words is OK. Plus, as fewer names are available more people will use hyphens and it will become more acceptable. More than one hyphen starts to look spammy.

I am also a .com purist. I would rather have a hyphenated .com than a non-hyphenated .anythingelse. It keeps me from buying too many domains!

Default Re: The Hyphen...Oh No!

i prefer to use hyphen on URLs.. because it is much more easier to read.. and on what I know search engine like url with "word1-word2" rather than "word1word2"

i found this site about Hyphenating or not..

Thanks guys. I still can't decide, although I'm considering shifting my focus altogether and maybe being able to avoid the hyphen that way. I know it has its benefits, but I'm not convinced it's what I want yet.

Jessi, I've been known to almost paralyze myself when choosing domain names. I think, over think, and try to decide until I drive myself crazy. I use a thesaurus to find other words that mean the same thing. I do research on the keywords.

Good luck with the decision!

I disagree with the hyphen negativity to be honest.

One of my websites is Fair Review. Which do you think looks better?

fairreview

or

fair-review

Personally, I think the second one

I am hyphenated, and it seems to be going quite well.. I agree with what Rob said..whatever that was - I also think if you are consistant in marketing it, and joining in, it won't be an issue.
