How many posts ideally on the index page?

I keep mine at five just because I dont like waiting forever for blogs to load so I usually assume other people will feel the same way

Do you guys suggest using a "Continue Reading" or <--More--> bar in oder to allow more content on the home page? All of my posts are very rich, I don't really do the short quick update postings. because of this, they run fairly far down the page and I could only really have 2, MAYBE 3, on the front page.

Hmm for your situation I would probably do the short one.

I hate the MORE tag so bad. I read the blogs I read through a feed reader and I will dump blogs that make me go to the site to read the full article. Same goes for pages that make me click to a second page to finish. But that could just be me.

It is up to your theme but for userfriendly site, I would suggest you to have ten post on index.php

I have 4 on my front page for faster loading time.

I HATE the more tag and only use it for posts that are super long!

I go with 5 posts on the home page, and even these are cut to snippets of posts to make the home page appear shorter and more readable.
