Default Blog Posts Appearing on Websites

Doing a Google search on my blog, I have found that some of my posts have appeared on quite a few seemingly obscure web sites, such as urbanmusic2000, cleverhippo, webdesignerhosting, etc. I do participate in forums, but it seems some of my posts are being snatched and landing on such sites. Is this common? How can this be? Has anyone had similar occur?

People can run your RSS feed on to their site. It is an easy way for them to create content for their site.

Lot of sites are putting RSS feed to their site so if your articles are producing RSS feed they could appear anywhere. Especially when you have submitted your feed to technorati or digg. However RSS feed does not support any HTML tags inside article so your article will be not formatted when using RSS feed. Usually the feed takes first paragraphs and then links to ariginal post. If this is not the case, somebody has just copied your article so I would recommend to put copyright line below your article. It was happening same way when I submitted my article to article directories.

OK thanks veikoh/MarketLeverage - makes sense; I have submitted articles to article directories, and submitted my blog to technorati, digg, and several blog directories. And I do use feedburner of which their are RSS subscriptions. I also promote with feedburner's banner in my profiles in social/forum sites (Myspace, Mylot, etc)...

Hmm, I don't know what to think about this. Stealing is the highest form of flattery in writing. I would ask them for an acknowledgement.

Typically I don't get offended as long as I have a link back and frankly SE's most likely indexed it on me first so I'm not worried bout them outranking me. The issue is when you get BAD sites doing it which you DO NOT want links from...

i think that's what they call bad neighborhood.. sometimes they don't have a good reputation in google because of those stolen content.. but, you don't have to worry if your links are present on that site.. because google will not penalized your site if you don't have any connection with that particular site.. just avoid commenting on the site with stolen contents and you can also check if that site was penalized or banned by google by site:domainname.com

I also experience that kind of site.. and I saw lots of site who stole my content..
