How many hits

As Jay said you should be concerned about unique visitors first, possibly page views and visits. But not hits. A "hit" refers to a file that is loaded on your site - if someone views a page with 10 images, that counts as 11 hits. If you also have a stylesheet and scripts you could end up with around 15 hits per page view. Therefore, don't bother looking at how many "hits" you receive - focus on unique visitors.

This is my 3rd day in blogging and I got 400+ hits., maybe those are about 40 visitors., I once read in an article that all you need is "PATIENCE".,

I set goals every quarter. Here are my Q1 goals:

(I keep them on a seperate blog so I keep my main blog on topic)

Your traffic will depend on your subject area. If you are THE blog on the subject of expensive tractors, then a number will be low.

If you are trying to compete with Engadget, then your numbers will be high.

I initially tried to become the biggest travelogue. I don't know if I've done it, but if I haven't, I'm damn close. (that being said, most aren't very big)

My next goal is to become one of the larger single author travel blog, regardless of subject focus. (ie Compete with travel industry blogs).

You can always compare your site relative to other blogs in your category by joining blog topsites (the ones that measure by unique visitors, not voting). It is a much smaller subset, but you can measure how well your growth is relative to other related sites.
