I was wondering about opinions on going back and editing blog posts.
Usually I create a post or article, submit it and then realized I had a typo or that I could say something better so I go back and edit it a few times and re save it. Does that have any detrimental effects that you can think of? Should I write my posts somewhere else like Word and make sure I only post them once to my blogs and not go back and edit them? Thanks

Do you correct them soon after they are posted? Or after they are indexed?

I found when I had other blogs and would go nuts finding typos after hitting send after a while technorati just stopped coming to my site and pinging... I haven't had this happen n a long time but I'd recommend once you hit PUBLISH to set it and forget it. The odd edit is fine but if you're doing 3-5 that's overkill imo.

Well with me I hardly ever go edit. Sometimes with pillar articles I do write them in Word first to catch major errors. Also, with the new firefox the spell check is built in, just like with word it underlines misspelled words- you right click and choose the correct spelling.
With those two methods I rarely have to go in an edit a post. One downfall to editing a lot is that with some RSS readers if you change a post form 3 days ago it shows up again as new in the feed. (mainly seen while using feedburner and bloglines for feed reading. ) |

^ I adored Firefox anyway, but the automatic spell checker just gave it an even more special place in my heart...er, well, at least in my internet usage, but same thing, right?
And I agree. Editing once or twice isn't a problem, but excessively over-editing could run you into pinging problems....and even if it didn't, you could save yourself major time by reading over your post first to catch those kinds of errors than constantly going back to edit. |

I'm going back and editing some of my older posts to contain links to new posts if they're related.

I prefer editing blog posts, not really because typos -it is very difficoult to avoid them if you are not a native English speaker- but if the last-modified header is changed the search engine rankings are improved as i observed.

Yes I do love the spell check in FireFox. Mostly I'm editing to add more info I may have found on the subject or saying something in different words. It looks like many different opinions here on editing blogs.
The more votes the better I can decide how I handle editing blogs in the future. Thanks

I have mainly done edits for the labels and tags, of which I sometimes forget to add relevant tags. But wish there was a way to remind, because they are probably important on sites where I have submitted my blog...

Xmas Lights Gone Crazy » Home Business Blog
I just edited and posted that like 6 times or so... Turns out whenever I put anything in the FUNNY category it doesn't go to main page... I wanted it main page. Either way I hope technorati doesn't ignore me now. This happened once with another blog. Long story short, publish it and forget it. It also annoys subscribers I'm sure as they just got 5-6 tests that went through... Whooops! P.S Eve - Are funny section not supposed to go to front page?
