What do you all think of this off the wordpress help..this is from wordpress.com - I did have my domain that I purchased being re-directed to the wordpress free original blog, when it was an empty domain, now the old address at wordpress.com is re-directing to the new blog domain - what do you think of the following ? I think you need to be careful and investigate this a lot more before making a decision. There surely has to be a duplicate content issue here. And if you 301 the redirects, your redirected domains will drain Page Rank from your main site. Best of luck |

Paul, Thank you for the input - I did have it re-direct it is in the console of wordpress dot com. I am not quite sure how to handle this regarding duplicate content, it's all so new to me. Time will tell I suppose.. |

I agree with Paul. You have to definitely be careful when doing something like this. I'm pretty sure as well that there'll be a duplicate content issue in the search engines. Especially Google. If they slap you for having duplicate content, you may actually lose Page Rank.

What would be the best thing to do than? Just leave the wordpress dot com site up and put a post directing them to the new one? Eliminate the posts that are on the new site that are on the old? |

I would update your old blog with a few original posts, maybe modify some existing posts, move forward with your new blog and put a few links back and forth so your 2 sites could compliment each other with back links to relative content pages. In the end they both would benefit as long as the content is not duplicated.

That is what I am worried about the duplicate content. It is an exact replica -the old blog is re-directing to the new one with in the wordpress.com dashboard. I have removed the verification in the old blog for Google.
