I understand that there are a lot of different aspects that make up a profitable blog. One subject I do not see much is in regards to posting. I am curious how often people post to there blogs and if there is any correlation between frequent post equating to higher revenues. I understand that there are many other variables involved such as style of monetization, amount of traffic, etc... Has anyone done any testing on the frequency of posting?

It depends on your niche'. To me, though, the thing that's more important than posting frequency is posting regularity. Set a schedule and stick to it. I have my schedule on my site..."Updated daily, Monday through Friday". And I stick to that. Therefore, my readers know what to expect, and are therefore not let down when they don't get eleventy-bajillion posts per day. (I'm about to start upping my posts-per-day count, but slowly) I don't think there's really a "right" answer to your question...again, it depends on you, the amount of time you're going to be able to consistently put into posting, and what topic you're posting on (and, by extension, how much there is in your subject that would make good posts per day/week). Celebrity bloggers post a million times a day, because (a) there's more than enough content to do so, and (b) the audience is voracious. However, a blog on "Care and Feeding of Ferns" would need fewer posts, possibly even one or two a week. I wouldn't worry about it myself...however, here's a link on the subject: Problogger.com: Five Methods To Be A Prolific Blogger (be sure to read the comments as well...some interesting opinions down there) MPDailyFix.com: Why Blog Post Frequency Doesn't Matter Anymore (be sure to read reason number four) Problogger.com: How Many Blog Posts Are Too Many? (Darren actually did a poll on "Why do you unsubscribe from blog feeds?", and the number one reason was "Too many posts." Of course, the other common reason was "Posting too infrequently." )

Inhibitor hit the nail on the head. I basically say post good content as much as you can; if you don't have anything great post about then don't. nothing annoys a subscriber and than getting lots of junk and through their reader. often times people think if they post more they will get more traffic and to some extent they may get a little more about it won't be repeat users and it won't be loyal fans and it won't help subscribers or so ultimately traffic is vanity subscribers sales and conversion is sanity! That being said try and keep a steady posting schedule so your readers will come back and look forward to it. lots of people think blogging is easy money but in reality if you are not passionate about the topic it's not. blogging does take a lot of time and work; especially if it is a topic that involves lots of research and factual information.

Thanks, that really adds a nice perspective for me. I guess I was thinking (as it was put in the articles) in a web 1.0 capacity. I just recently started blogging and looking back it seems that everything I have read about blogs have been outdated material. Thanks again for the articles

Yes there is no point in posting several posts a day if your niche requires a lot of facts but at the same time doesn't change frequently. In other words topics that are changing all the time will be hot in the news so in this case you could update constantly. The sort of niches that update and change all the time are video games (new ones being released) and movies (again new movies coming out).

it is always good if you have more authors contributing to your site, which means more traffic to your site.

From a reader's point of view... I don't bother reading more than two posts a day from the same blog. I find people who post more than twice a day just blahblah in the third one... Or maybe it's psychological, I don't know Nothing is more annoying than subscribing to a feed and discovering that: - The author posts every three weeks "sorry, I've been busy, I'm back now"... followed by another hiatus and another apology etc. - The author posts ten times a day to say nothing. I usually unsubscribe pretty quick As said above, pick a schedule (frequency of posts also depends on your blog's niche...) and stick to it. |

yes. i agree. if you don't have anything really good or relevant to say about your topic, it's probably better not to say anything. scheduling your posts is great because your reader's will always know when to check back.
