Default Tracking visitors?

How can you figure out where visitors to your blog come from? Is there a widgit or something you can put on your site, or are the statistics acessable some other way?

One of the directories will tell me how many unique visitors I get in a week, but it doesn't tell me where they come from.

I've got Statcounter on my blog, and it seems to work very well. After installing a small amount of code (invisibly if you like...that's how I've got mine set up) you get a detailed look at how many hits you have per day, how many are returning readers, and you can also look at a detailed list of each visitor, including what IP they are using, the link they clicked to reach your site, and what page they entered your site at.

The free version is just fine...the main limitation with it is that it only keeps the last 500 hits you've had in the log.

I would also be remiss if I didn't mention the stat counter I plan on putting into place when my swapover to self-hosted Wordpress for Lag-O-Rama...Blogpatrol.

It's also a recommended feature on the Bloggeries main page, by the way.

I use StatCounter, and if you run a WordPress blog, you can also use this plugin -- WordPress-StatCounter Plugin -- all you need to do is enter your StarCounter project number and the plugin does all the tracking for you, meaning you don't even have to get into the codes

different stats counter some times gives different results so choose one which is reliable. Google Analytics is far better than some other and it has some good features.
