What controls your sites Alexa rating? My rating is going UP (the number is getting bigger), which is bad, right? What would make it do that. |

You're right that a smaller number is what you want, but I wouldn't worry too much. The way I understand it, its numbers are very unreliable until you start getting to sites that get huge volumes of daily visitors. It can also be strongly skewed by visits from people with the Alexa toolbar installed. (This makes it so technology/webmaster sites often have a leg-up because many of their visitors will already have it.) I haven't read much into Alexa lately though, so I'd be curious to hear other opinions.

I think Alexa is not that relevant these days. Focus on what your google analytics is telling you and you will do great.

Alexa is doing good for sites lesser then the 5000 range, anything above that is very inaccurate and they are doing a bad job ranking relevant sites. If you are trying to rank for alexa, all you need to do is to update regularly, make sure your meta information is updated on every page, send more traffic to your site regularly etc. However It's really a waste of time, because most people are searching for sites on the search engines and not alexa. It is doing very little good accept to help boost visitor confidence in my opinion.

I find Alexa to be a very good representative of a sites traffic,. When blog engage is up they know, when blog engage is down they know! I like to think they have a very good algorithm.

I have to say I haven't been paying attention to Alexa really - I think I have looked at it before, but I don't know if my own traffic ranking is going up or down. Anyways, your blog looks like it is doing fine. As others mentioned, watch those google analytics.

I don't understand the Alexa ranking. Day 1 blogging my Alexa was 17 million a week later its 1.3 million. I haven't added a lot of content and I am averaging about 50 visitors a day. I don't think those things alone with drop my score that much. I'm confused and not really going to pay much attention to it.

alexa does not mean anything especially to your blog. Alexa rank is determined by the number of alexa toolbar users visiting your website (alexa does not mean anything especially to your blog.) I said this because most alexa users are webmasters and tech geeks. so your blog is not intended for Alexa users right? so do not worry about Alexa. try to focus on Google analytics report to improve your website performance
