Hi, I struggle with the writing side of blogging, which I deem to be a big negative. My blog is about my handmade furniture, I photograph a lot of my work, the pictures look good and I suppose speak for themselves. The problem I have is because I do this day in day out I find I have very little to say about it, without sounding repetitive . Any one else have this problem, and do the pictures speak for themselves?

Well it depends. One question: Is that the purpose/goal of your blog....to show them off? Often times, yes, pictures do indeed speak for themselves. If that's all you want to do is share the pictures, then sure, fewer words will suffice. But if you want to involve your viewers in the work more, you're going to need more words sometimes. Tell them where you hit snags or personal stories behind why you were doing this or that. Tell them how they can do things themselves or where you got an idea. I glanced through a couple posts on your blog and maybe I got lucky and picked the best examples randomly, but it seemed like you were doing fine. You showed enough pictures for people to get a view from several angles or the important parts and you included some descriptions. Again, depending on your purpose and what you want out of the blog, you may be doing just fine.

Add some brief introduction is better, most visitors don't know much about furniture, though sometimes there aren't many difference between them, you need to let visitors know them. After all, you don't know they will visit which pages.

| Agreed, a brief introduction would be ideal..picture can express and sometimes self explanatory but then adding description is still a plus factor

I agree with QuirkyJessi, your pictures look nice on your blog, and you have enough description to make the blog more visually appealing and interesting. If you wanted to do more with picture, you may want to consider linking to your portfolio on your posting, or to a collection on another site like Flickr. You could also put a description line under the photos to describe each one more or what phase you are in. I think perhaps some more photos of what the cabinets or other pieces look like inside would also be good. The photos you have show very professional work. Thanks for sharing them. |

I don't like writing stuff too. I do occasionally have a spur to write an article, but only occasionally. I think your blog is fine with just a quick explanation, then pictures. Then maybe under the pictures you can talk about them in a little more detail for those interested.
