I have seen an article on a website that I would like to put on one of my blogs. If I copy it and paste it between " " on my blog, then credit the website at the bottom, is this still copyright infringement? I can't see where I can directly contact the writer, so I'm stuck. Or should I just re-write the article in a different format with different words?

There should be a quote tag in your post editor, that's what i use when I want to copy an article from an other blog to comment it afterwards; I make sure there is a link to his blog and his name right after or before the article though.

Personally I think that you should not quote the entire article. If you want to comment on specific parts of it then quote those parts and comment on them or just quote an overview of the article then make your comments. But always link to the orginal document and cite the author.

| But a link to the creator is absolutely not enough. It doesn't make it OK.

you must be unique, otherwise how will your audience be interested in you... never copy the whole article write your own article where you describe your personal opinion on the article that you liked, if you have any comments or you do not agree with something, do not be afraid to write it, and in the quotes you can add a phrase or sentence, which you do not agree.... in the end do not forget to add a link to the article you're linking to ... good luck |

It's not too bad as long as you give credit to the author and have it in "" so people know you aren't the original author. But if I were you I'd just link to it and give your own opinion on the article and why you like it so much It will only hurt you in the long run using duplicate content

It's not just a matter of SEO, copyright is a matter of international law. No, you cannot legally reprint the whole article without express permission to do so. Quotation marks and/or attribution link can tell the reader (a) you copied the article and/or (b) where it came from orginally, true, but these things don't give you the moral or legal permission to take someone else's intellectual property for use on your own site. However -- there is a concept called "fair use" that lets you quote a part of the article -- just as much as you need to provide so your readers can understand your critique or follow-up (think of a movie review, for example). So, in general, you can quote small parts of the material as a jumping-off point for your own unique article. That way, everyone wins: the author who inspired you does not get ripped off, and you don't get letters of complaint filed with Google, your web host, etc. And, as someone has pointed out, it's better for both readers and SEO for you to do your own thing anyway.
