Default Creating a Link Directory

I want to create a directory but not sure how to go about it. Are there any recommendations/advice/tutorials/tips/ or anthing that can help? Also, does it need to have it's own domain, sub-domain, or off of my main blog? What is best?

Is for where to put it, it's just a typical web script so you can put it where you want it. If it's off of your main blog then it'll never really be more than part of your blog where as if it's on it's own-domain it'll be a directory in it's own right.

There a re a few scripts that I've tried, but not in over a year so I can't really recommend anything as they will have changed considerably, but the one I can think of is Home : php Link Directory

I've been browsing around at other directories and noticed they are all part of the blog for the most part. I did check out the link you gave and downloaded it but I think I'll have a small problem creating a database because I have never done that. I tried to click on the link they provided but it took me to a thread that was no longer available.

Hmmm, I may be better off paying for help

PHPLD is alright it does have some flaws but all and all it's a pretty steady software. Directories take time and you have to exercise real editorial integrity or you'll turn it into a spammy link farm fast

If your webhost gives you cpanel, creating a database is pretty easy. I've got a tutorial on the blog already that's targeted for users of JustFree.com, but the screenshots there won't apply if you're using cpanel.

But, I was looking for a topic for Friday's post so maybe it's time for another tutorial post with cpanel screenshots on creating a database and a related user.

Edit: the tutorial post is scheduled for tonight. Hope it helps!

Jay

I forgot to say thanks Jay! I'm still having trouble but not with the database. Your tutorial helped a bunch.

You're welcome!

Getting any script setup is always a bit of a pain. Most don't go 100% smoothly, no matter what the installation instructions say.

Thank you on the contest...I was 35 and now around 60 something.

Script...I went to the place you mentioned..php link directory and used the freebie. I have gone much further though. It's a lot of work.
