So I noticed on my stat counter stats that a majority of my visitors are spending less than 5 secs. Here is the pic: I'm trying to make sense of this disclaimer from stat counter. I have stat counter on my main homepage, but I don't believe I can put it on another page using blogspot. ![]() If first time visitors are spending less than 5 secs on my website, then what should I do? Can you check out my blog and tell me if something is turning you off. Appreciate the help! Here is my blog: TBI - Beer Reviews |

It looks to me like this is the usual "bounce" issue. When a user visits one and only one page on a website, then with most stat packages that will count as a less-than-five-second visit, _even if_ they spent several minutes there. So these statistics aren't really telling you that your visitors leave quickly, they're telling you that your visitors normally view only one page. You may (or may not) still consider that an issue, but it's a different issue. Editing to add: If your users normally search in a search engine for a review for a specific beer and are given a link to a specific page on your site, they may well be benefiting from your site even though they only view one page and therefore are incorrectly logged as making a "less than five second" visit. |

What kind of stat counter are you using? A "hit" usually includes everyone who comes back over and over again. That means if I open up your site, decide I need to come back later, and 5 min later, come back to you, that is two hits, but it is only ONE absolute unique visitor. That ONE visitor is still meaningful, even though bounced the first visit. Your analytics might look more reliable with google analytics installed. With google analytics, you'll get an average time on site, which might work out to be much higher than you think. And I think that ChickenFreak is right - That's your bounce rate which might be fairly normal. It can be very hard to drop a bounce rate, even on successful busy blogs. Though 73% is a little high for a bounce rate, but even 60 or 65% bounce rate isn't abnormal for a successful blog.

I suggest that you install google analytics and see if it is giving you a similar result.
