I'm creating a website where I will re-post favorite articles from my blog. It will be linked to my blog with a tab at the top and will be named "Favorites." As I have it planned now, the articles will be posted twice, once on the blog, then once on the website. Should I worry about posting duplicate content? I've read that the search engines don't like that. My first idea was to create a feed for the specific articles. I can't find that is possible. Is it possible? Thanks |

Why not just have a "favorites" page on your blog, with links to these posts? That would avoid the duplicate content issue.

I feel what I have envisioned will look better and be more convenient. I'm constantly trying new things with my blog. This is just something else I'm trying. I'm actually not too worried about it, but I don't want to unnecessarily hurt any possible rankings I might some day get. I think I will try using this tag on the page with the duplicate content: <META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOINDEX, NOFOLLOW"> |

The duplicate content penalty only applies to content on the same domain, right? If you syndicate your content and it gets duplicated on other sites Google won't penalize the original source.

I am not sure how it works for duplicate content, but I do know that two sites with the exact same articles on them may be a problem. One may not rank very high, and one may be flagged for using the exact content another has on it. Google itself gives some hints on how NOT to use duplicate content, and what to do if you have to. I think I've actually found a simple solution to my problem. I'm using Google Sites, so I can't do anything fancy, and the <META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOINDEX, NOFOLLOW"> does not work. But I think there is a simpler answer. In Google Sites go to: More Actions > Site permissions > Change. Click on "Change" and click on the button for "Anyone with a link." My understanding that this prevents the site from being indexed. To know the site exits, you have to provide people with a link. Thanks for the replies and help. |

yeah, I think that the "best of blogging" page would work great!
