My first tip would be to explore the forums here. There are tons of similar posts and great suggestions of how to increase readership.

YES!! These forums are great. Also....your number one focus initially should be adding QUALITY content to your blog. Once you have a reason for people to visit your site, you can start to market it.

I agree that these forums are excellent sources of tips and traffic. I started getting more traffic by sharing my blog with my family and friends, putting the link in all my signatures (personal email, other forums I belong to, etc.), following other blogs in the blogging community, and making a Facebook Fan Page.

I've just now started increasing traffic to my site. The two biggest keys for me (other than spending time on this forum) were: #1 - LOTS of content. I quickly realized that more content equaled more visitors. #2 - I sent out a few emails to all of my contacts (business & personal) and just asked them to visit my site, give me feedback, and subscribe to the blog. Some of those people must have liked what they saw and told a friend. :-) Good luck!

Gainlifecoach, I have had an opposite strategy as yours on my path to success. (PR 4). I view my blog like a pet puppy. You can't feed a puppy a whole bunch of food at once and then really slow down feeding him later. The puppy has to be fed at very regular intervals. I have found that consistency - not loading up at content in the beginning - has been a key to success. Look at my archive widget on the side of my blog, and there is a pattern. After writing the content, trying to work on quality, I did heavily promote the blog with twitter. That's the pattern I've been doing for 18 months. Ground zero to where I am at now. I don't necessarily think that everyone needs twitter, but I think that most people will benefit by finding some sort of social media promotion that suits their blog.

I agree with melody. Find something that suits your blog and build upon it. Trying to use all the strategies given to you placed throughout this forum can become exhausting with very little return. Try to focus on one method and build on that first. I am using Twitter to start mine of, but also remember that you should blog first, visitors after...
