When I got my first comment it was from a blogging community called BlogEngage. I was pleased. Infact, I was so pleased that I contacted the commentator via email and said thank you. It is going that extra mile in your community that's important.

I got my first comment after my first post. I created my blog on my good friend's birthday, and she is a fellow blogger and English major, so she commented and said, "Writing this is a good birthday present. Thank you " or something like that

This might sound like bullshit, but it's not. I got ten comments on my first post. Okay, so four of them were replies by me to those comments, but I'm a guy so bigger numbers count more. It's a shame that I barely manage one comment these days. |

For any blog I cook up generally my first few comments come from friends. I find its tough to encourage strangers to comment, unless your content is "supra" awesome. Usually when I start a blog I share the post on Facebook and my friends get the ball rolling. Only problem with that is the conversation and comments end up staying on Facebook instead of making it to the comment section.

I find that happens on Twitter as well as FB. I tweet my posts and the discussion tends to happen on Twitter rather than on the blog. Perhaps this says something about the prominence of Social Media?

Thank you for the responses so far everyone. Well, I’m happy to say I got my first comment for my first post yesterday, nice feeling I must admit, more like relief someone read it. I have the feeling many people got there first comment through friends and family, I guess it is a start isn't it. So anyone else? |

Congrats on the first comment. Feels good to know that someone actually read your post! As for the FB and Twitter convos I have been toying with replacing my comments section on some of my blogs to with the FB tools or somehow incorporating Twitter to the comments. Anyone have any experience with this?

I made about 5 posts without receiving a single comment at the beginning of my blog's lifespan (though I did receive perhaps 5-10 unique visitors per day). After a while I decided to just turn them off, because every post's having 0 comments was making my blog look more lonely than it actually was, and it was pretty lonely. Once I get enough daily traffic from enough different sources, I'll open comments back up to (hopefully) light discussion.

my first comment was a family member on my first post. it was great to get immediate feedback and made me feel loved, but family always loves what you do. i was more excited when friends and friends of friends started commenting. which started around my 5th or so post.
